Protect Yourself From Mosquitos

With the Zika virus making news over the past year, more and more customers have been asking us about mosquito spraying. While it’s been confined to southern states, it’s still a good idea to protect your home from these unwanted guests. Below are just a few reasons why you should consider mosquito control for your home, along with information about our process.

While the Zika virus has not spread to New Jersey, the West Nile Virus is a common occurrence. According to the CDC, the first US West Nile Virus’ outbreak occurred in the New York City area in 1999. Due to our proximity to the origin, West Nile Virus cases have shown up throughout Somerset County in various spots over the years. The virus can infect humans, birds, horses, and other mammals/livestock. Mosquito control can help prevent these dangerous pests.

Our mosquito control program uses the Haven Mosquito Repellant System. This system consists of various fixtures around your walkways and patio, and comes with a timer that allows you to program spray release by the time of day. You can also find an option that doubles as a landscape light to illuminate areas around your patio, while keeping pests at bay. Each cartridge lasts for 90 days if used for around two-and-a-half hours each day.

What Other Preventative Measures Can I Take?

While mosquito repellant systems will definitely help you keep mosquitos away, there are still other preventative measures you can take. See if there are any areas of standing water surrounding your property, as mosquitos can thrive in any area with more than a half-inch of ponding. Proper drainage can help you with this issue.

Also, keep any flowerpots, tires, or pails inside during warmer weather months, as larvae can form in these areas too. Somerset County offers a program called “fight the bite,” that lets residents know about other areas where ticks and mosquitos can breed around your residence.
